Hobart Harlequins April 1977
From the newsletter no. 5 76/77 5th April 1977, Mortlock Library,
SA State Library.
"13 Harlequins were hosted at Laurie & Di Evans' on Good Friday night.
On Saturday, despite attempts to torpedo the opposition, Collegians, well in front, could
not prevent a late rally by the Harlequins who opened their score just before full time,
just avoiding a duck.
The score not being important, was forgotten, as drinks were regularly served by an
incongruous collection of stewards and then later in the club where Old Collegians also
ran out winners in the boat race by a handsome quarter of a length. It was agreed
that the clubs would compete for Harlequins' patron, Ron Nolte's 25 year old guernsey.
This relic will be mounted and will be ours until they beat us."
