Junior Falcons 2008

On 26 September 2008 the Junior Falcons, South Australia's Junior (18-20 years) State Men's Rugby Team, will travel to New Zealand to take on competitive rugby union teams in Wellington and the surrounding regions.

The players have been selected to represent their State and will play in 3 challenging games over 10 days. The Junior Falcons will also further embrace the rugby experience by attending an Air New Zealand Cup game, mentor the South Australian State Under 14 team and visit a Maori Marai.

The young men of Old Collegians have done the Club proud by having the greatest representation of any of the Clubs in SA, mirroring our contribution to the Black Falcons. The following players from Old Collegians have been selected in the Junior Falcons team: Chris Bartlett, Cleve Batten, Xander Evans, Todd Grant, Brad McDonald, Charles Neate, Henry Nutt, Tom Nutt, Will Sadler and Rory Sheppard.

The Junior Falcons are still doing a wine fundraiser and will be selling a sensational BBQ throughout the finals so make sure you stick your hand in your pocket and support the future rugby talent of SA.

Old Collegians Under 16s 7s team undefeated

Just a quick note on the recent successes for the Under 16s squad over the last three weekends including the Sevens gala day last Sunday held at South's Ground. For the last three weekends the u16s have been playing in a series of Sevens matches organised by the SARU culminating in the Sevens gala. Weekend one saw the boys draw against Burnside A, a very entertaining game, and trounce Burnside B with some excellent running rugby even from the forwards! - cracking results given the school holidays and a turn out of only nine players. Weekend two the boys defeated Burnside A 17 to 12, again a close match with the result going to the last minute; superb commitment and excellent defence were clearly the difference. The second game of the weekend saw the boys put on an great display of running rugby against Souths winning 28 to 0 and all concerned now looking forward to the Gala tournament to follow. Sadly we would be missing our two newly enrolled islanders for the Gala day plus an injured Vern Lee, all three not included in the picture below.

Onto the Gala weekend. We posted wins against Souths A, Vikings B and most pleasingly Onka's A.  Sadly the boys missed out on the final on a points count-back as there were two other undefeated teams on the day. The most pleasing aspect of the last three weekends has been the courage, support play and resolute defence that all the boys have shown. The coaching staff and parents are immensely proud of the boys and we clearly have a good mix of experience, new boys from the under 14s last year who got stuck in really well and some converts from rugby league which is always pleasing.

We are now working towards the state trial games on Saturday and I am very confident that we will have more than a few of the lads picked to go onto the next stage.

I'd personally like to thank Tony Herve, Guy Barrett and Michael Barrett for their support to date.  What a good way to start things off.

Well done boys !!

Yours in Rugby

Rugby 7s - U16s

Undefeated U16 7s team 2008
Head coach David Linder-Patton, Manager Michael Barrett. Undefeated in 7s this season.

Congratulations Boys!  Undefeated for the sevens comp, sad to miss out on the final on a points count but you showed great spirit and courage.

We have state trials on Saturday 3rd of May at Onkas, so we have to put in a good weeks training, this will be a full team so yet another chance to show how good we can work as a team and hopefully get a good number through to the final trial games on 31st May.

I am extremely proud of your team work, commitment and no small amount of aggression! You should be rightly proud of yourselves and we have a great chance this year.

See you all on Monday and let’s make sure we all work for each other.

Yours in Rugby

David Linder-Patton
